         Chicopee Lodge - Lodge History  


The information below has been collected over the history of the lodge. We welcome

On December 4, 1848 a meeting was called by a number of interested Masons from Chicopee for the purpose of forming a Masonic Lodge in Chicopee. The meeting was held in the Odd Fellows Lodge on Exchange Street. Brother Edward Rainey was elected chairman of this meeting. A petition was signed by twenty Brothers present and forwarded to the Massachusetts Grand Lodge in Boston for approval to create
a Masonic Lodge in Chicopee. The lodge charter was signed that year by M.W. Simon W. Robinson, who was Grand Master. 
On December 4, 1848 Rufus Whittier, was elected the first Master of Chicopee Lodge. Alpheus Nettleton elected Senior Warden and Lucius Harthan was elected Junior Warden. Chicopee Lodge was instituted by the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts on December 22,1848.

As of December 28, 2008 The Chicopee Lodge of A.F. & A.M. were assigned to the 27th Masonic District currently under the direction of R.W. Tyler W. Seavey, District Deputy Grand Master.
